Framebolt

Updated August 17, 2026

A Mac screenshot tool that saves and copies every capture

Framebolt removes the Finder detour without hiding your files. A raw PNG is copied to the clipboard and written to a dated local library in one capture operation.

Synthetic UI is used here to explain the sequence; Framebolt's raw capture remains a local PNG.

The capture contract

The useful part is not another way to draw a rectangle. It is knowing what happens after the rectangle is confirmed.

  1. 1

    Select a region or display

Press ⌘⇧S for the adjustable selection overlay or ⌘⇧D for the current default capture mode. The overlay captures a region or the main display; it does not target windows automatically.

  2. 2

    Capture once

Confirm the selection. Framebolt writes an untouched PNG under ~/Pictures/CaptureIt and places that same image on the macOS clipboard immediately.

  3. 3

    Paste where you already work

Use ⌘V in a browser chat, issue tracker, pull request, Slack, Notes, or another image destination. The local file remains available for later editing or export.

Shortcuts are rebindable in Settings. Screenshots are organized by date under Pictures/YYYY-MM-DD; recordings use Recordings/YYYY-MM-DD. A ten-second preview offers a path into the editor without changing the raw file.

What it can and cannot capture

  • Requires macOS 15 Sequoia or later and Screen Recording permission for the first real capture.
  • Captures a selected region or the main display and excludes Framebolt's own selection, preview, editor, and recording windows.
  • Protected windows and permission-restricted content may not be available to the system capture API.
  • There is no automatic window targeting. Select the visible area you want to include.
